Recognizing the Month of October 2025 as
“Navajo Nation Spay & Neuter Awareness Month”
In May 2025, Navajo Nation President Dr. Buu Nygren proclaimed October 2025 as Spay & Neuter Awareness Month across the Navajo Nation.
The proclamation recognizes that pet owners are called on to use available resources such as spay/neuter clinics, vaccination clinics, and surrender/transfer options.​
The proclamation also recognizes that:

Animal care and population control are essential for community well-being, disease prevention, and reducing the number of stray animals.

Stray and free-roaming animals face suffering from illness, injury, hunger, thirst, and harsh weather.

By declaring October as Spay & Neuter Awareness Month, the Navajo Nation encourages all departments, chapters, and organizations to support and partner with nonprofits to expand access to clinics year-round and foster a culture of respect and care for all living beings
