Kayenta Shelter Services

From helping stray animals to supporting pet owners, these services are here for the Kayenta community.

The Kayenta Animal Care Center provides services to help keep pets safe, cared for, and connected to their families. Whether you’ve found a stray, need help with a pet, or are looking to adopt, the team is here to support you.

How We Can Help

Stray animal pickup
If you find a stray pet in Kayenta Township, the team can help safely pick up and care for the animal.

Lost pet reunification

Every effort is made to help lost pets return home, including scanning for microchips and working with the community to locate owners.

What happens when a pet comes to the shelter?

Pets receive basic care to help them stay healthy and comfortable, including vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick treatment, and a microchip scan. Staff also spend time getting to know each pet’s personality and needs.

If an owner cannot be found, pets may become available for adoption and may be scheduled for spay/neuter through a mobile clinic.

Owner surrenders
If you are no longer able to care for your pet, the center may be able to assist depending on space and capacity.

Pet adoptions
Pets at the shelter are looking for adoptive homes. Staff can help match you with a pet that fits your lifestyle. Learn more about pet adoptions and see available pets

Resource connections
The center can connect you with local services like veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter clinics.

Monthly spay/neuter and vaccination clinics are available right here in Kayenta and in other communities on the Navajo Nation. To see upcoming dates or schedule a service, visit the calendar.
